Installing Your Leisure Bay Spa
We understand how busy you are. When your Leisure Bay Spa arrives, you’ll want to relax in the hot tub right away. There are a few things you can do to get ready for the delivery of your portable spa.

Site Selection
You will need to find a Solid Load Bearing Site for your hot tub. This means it is critical to prepare a level surface, like a concrete patio to support your hot tub, aid in filtration, and keep debris from being tracked into your spa. Options include a poured concrete slab, pavers, gravel, pressure-treated wood, and level dirt. The site must provide a solid foundation with a minimum load bearing capacity of 135 pounds per square foot. Concrete slabs and decks must be designed to support this weight. Do not select a site composed of individual unsupported bricks, blocks or other materials which will shift unevenly and cause damage to your spa’s internal frame. No matter what surface you choose, make sure it can support between 600-1000 pounds depending upon the model, the approximate full weight of the hot tub filled with water and occupants.

Level Site, Flat Surface
In addition to being able to bear the weight of the hot tub, choosing a level site is critical to both the performance and enjoyment of your Leisure Bay hot tub. Water is unforgiving and will always settle level. A flat and level site at your home provides the foundation necessary to properly disperse the weight between the foot well of the spa, which bears most of the hot tub’s weight and the structural frame which primarily provides stabilization and secondary support. The importance of proper support for the foot well of your spa in conjunction with the spa cabinet cannot be over stressed.

Your local contractor can help you decide where to place your spa and how to prepare your surface, and please free to call us for guidance:

Make sure you provide sufficient drainage for rainwater runoff and conform to local building codes. If you plan to locate your spa indoors, make sure you have a ventilation fan or vent to allow heat and moisture to escape. Think about how close you want your hot tub to your house, how private you want it to be, where users will change, and how the spa will look in the location you are considering.

If possible it is always helpful to have the electrical system in place when the hot tub arrives. Before your spa is delivered, have your electrician visit your home. Have your electrician help you determine the best placement for the hot tub, and give you a cost estimate that way when the spa is delivered you will know the optimal space to place it.

You should tell your electrician that the electrical service for your spa must be a dedicated GFCI protected circuit that is properly grounded and bonded. The circuit must be rated at appropriate amperage per spa power requirements and electrical codes as articulated above. For complete electrical specs and installation diagrams download the PFF manual links on each spa detail page. The National Electrical Code requires that a manual disconnect device for your hot tub be installed between 5 and 15 feet of the spa for safety.

Consult with your local municipality building department for local electrical code requirements and contact an electrician who specializes in hot tub installation. Electrical installation, (approval of and connection to power source) must be completed by a qualified certified licensed electrician in compliance with all codes.

You’ll receive an owner’s manual with your spa that can help you plan, but if you still have questions, please call us:
